Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly known as Wizkid is an award-winning songwriter and afrobeat singer who started his musical journey when he was 11 years old, at that early age he released a collaborative album with his group known as the glorious five. In September 2014, he released his self themed song Ayo. in 2016 Wizkid’s contract with EMR expired and he released a hit song titled one dance featuring Drake an American singer. The song with Drake gave him his first international recognition, it was number one on the US billboard hot 100  and  topped charts in 14 different countries. The song also gave Wizkid a spot in the Guineas books of records in 2017, he was the first singer to appear in the Guinness world’s records.

Wizkid further signed a huge deal with RCA Records and released his third studio single titled Sounds from the other side. He once more featured Drake in his song come closer in 2017.

Wizkid had a lot more Foreign Collaboration with Normani and Calvin Harris in the song Checklist which topped the Billboard world digital sales chart. In 2019, Beyonce featured Wizkid in one of his Lion King soundtrack titled brown skin girl. The  brown skin girl song made waves across the globe, it topped the digital song sales chart and later won a Grammy award as the best music video. 

In 2020, Wizkid released another Album themed made in Lagos, this also topped number one on the Billboard charts.

The hit single from the made in Lagos Album titled Essence featuring Tems and a remix with Justin Bieber has become the first Nigerian song too but the Billboard chart top 100 and later top 10 in the world.

Following WizKids’s achievements over these years, Wizkid since February 2021, has been the most-streamed Nigerian song of all time on Spotify. Recently the hit song Essence has been Nominated for the 2022 iheat radio Music award. 

Currently, Wizkid has been recognized at Ohio University USA.

The lecturer Narrated the award-winning singer Wizkid’s notable music Journey and his rise to fame to the entire class. In a picture that surfaced online, the students were spotted watching the video with eagerness and admiration while the Lecturer stood on the side.

Haven discussed Wizkid’s achievements and his level of consistency in his music career, it is not surprising that he is held in high regard and used as a case study in Ohio University USA. Wizkid’s rise to fame from the mud is indeed worthy of study.
